Development Age (or “Dev” Age) is where soccer starts at HPFC for players 10 and under.
This level is typically a player's introduction to soccer at Highline. Players can play year-round or play only in the Summer/Fall or Winter/Spring seasons. Teams compete in the Washington Premier League (WPL) with matches played on Saturdays or Sundays around King County.
Dev Age Teams play 7v7 for either a two- or three-year cycle (8U/9U/10U). In the 7v7 game format, players learn to develop their understanding of attacking, defending, and transitioning by playing as a team. While building team cohesion is important, developing individual skills for 1v1 situations is also a significant focus of the Dev Age group.
Technical focus at training sessions emphasizes individual ball control, ball striking, dribbling and passing. Players at this age level must work to demonstrate focus at practice and matches.
Our teams train in small groups twice a week with low player/coach ratios where players are encouraged to try new things, take risks, and make mistakes that lead to player learning and player development. Dev Teams play 7v7 in 50-minute matches.
Our Coaching Leadership coordinates with each coach and across age groups to communicate team development needs to find an appropriate Division in the Washington Premier League.
Our coaches and staff work with players and families to review various aspects of player performance and develop a learning plan that meets the players where they are at developmentally.
